SAM (Snipe-IT Asset Management) Module #3: Linking User-to-Assets Rules

Linking principle assets to users in SAM, follows this principle:

	Principle assets in SAM are linked to the user. The only principle assets are: Laptop, Desktops and Fobs. All other assets are considered secondary.

Secondary assets are linked to principle assets in SAM. Assets that are considered as secondary: Scanner, Monitor, Docking station, Local printer (USB connection), Components (upgrades/replacement), Licenses/Keys

Reasoning & additional rules:

• Users are connected to principle assets, instead of all assets- so that if a user leaves the organization, the only thing that would change, is the user assigned to the principle device;  instead of changing all of the assets and licenses under the user's name.
• Principle assets >> User
• Secondary assets >> Principle assets

• There are no secondary assets/licenses for fobs
• Barcode handhelds are 'location-specific'- they are never assigned to users or principle assets
• Networked printers are also considered 'location-specific'; as such, they are not assigned to users or principle assets
• In SAM, there is no way to assign ACCESSORIES to assets- only to users
